The Bo-bomb battles were wonderful - I really enjoyed them more than any other battles on other versions. Shines I could never get into, and balloons just seemed lame, but piling up 4 or 5 bo-bombs on each character then launching them at your enemies en-masse was pure genius!!!

Yeah that battle type was great. It was funny how all those bob-ombs were balanced in one huge stack for each driver.

I have to say that the 4 player races on Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash made it for me. There is and will always be a limit to Mario Kart's potential in 1 player mode. Having said that the multiplayer on MK64 & DD more than made up for this. In fact such was the longetivity of the lifespan of MK64, that it was probably my most played game from when I bought it in the Spring/Summer of 1999 until 2002 when I left university! DD was equally popular when I went back to uni in 2005/06. =)

Personally for me, I have no preference. Each MK is different and with it's own unique challenges at multiplayer level. =)

I second that. Especially as Mario would say what I believe was "prepare to die" as he hurled some bombs toward an opponent. Classic hilarity.

Double Dash was awesome imo Apparently 2 person karts was a poor idea, when actually it worked really well for the game, teaming up characters to make the most of specials (Hated the chain chomp always let go on a corner)

Played SNES Super Mario Kart on ZSNES emulator and it was actually technically
brilliant as far as the games in those days go (Less annoying items) powersliding was weird though

Doubledash, in my opinion is the best out of the lot. For multiplayer with mates/family it is unbeatable. Much more fun than Mariokart wii locally.

It's probably the only game that ever got played on my Gamecube;awesome game.

It's funny. The original question was why do people say DD was rubbish.

Erm, so where's the answers? We all seem to love it!

By skimming IGN it seems like these are the main points.
  • Only a graphical update from 64
  • Item Imbalances
  • Axed Mechanics like Hop
  • 2 Item buttons?

The problem is the same as all series. They only compare it to it's prequels rather than as a individual game.
