Gameboy games on the DS officially?

I've searched and couldn't find anything on this specifically.

Edge magazine have rumoured that Nintendo may be soon releasing their own flashcart to allow us to download gameboy games to play on the DS!

The ol' grey box isn't dead yet guys!

That'd explain why Gameboy isn't included on the Virtual Console AND ties in with the Wii becoming a download station for DS demos

The biggest Gameboy games I know of were Donkey Kong Country & Perfect Dark, which were both around 4Mb.

If this is true I'd hazard a guess at a £20 flashcart and maybe 500 points (£3.75) for the games to download?

According to UK magazine Edge, Nintendo are getting ready to release a Nintendo DS storage card that will allow users to download and play Game Boy content on the DS. They say "The uncontrollable homebrew and piracy communities that use the DS rely on similar devices for their more nefarious ends, but this should, in the long term, allow Nintendo to exercise some control over at least the former through the simple step of offering a path to publisher-supported content.".

Of similar import is the imminent arrival of an official DS flash card, which will initially just be available to allow Nintendo to sell the back catalogue of Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games. The uncontrollable homebrew and piracy communities that use the DS rely on similar devices for their more nefarious ends, but this should, in the long term, allow Nintendo to exercise some control over at least the former through the simple step of offering a path to publisher-supported content. Compared to the slightly vague WiiWare proposition, this has the possibility to revolutionise homebrew development – at least in terms of distribution and the possibility of mainstream success – but how far the notoriously controlling Japanese giant will allow that community the creative freedom it requires to flourish will only be seen in practice. And before getting too excited, the device will launch exclusively for old Game Boy content, initially.

That's interesting.

Can't blame Ninty for trying to milk their old games for a bit more money. The VC is procing popular (I'd love to see some sales figures there!) so why not do this?

Don't think our household will actually use this new service though, as my boys still use their Game Boy Colours to play the older games on.

Hmmm, interesting and talking about gameboy games don't forget the amazingly popular Red, Blue and Yellow pokemon games

Hm, wonder if the original Pokemon Pinball would work on this system - it has a built in Rumble Pak (Yeah, we got that one too!)

I quite like the idea of this. With GBA and DS games you already get a large selection, but this would open up many, many more.
