I'll hopefully be able to tell you soon, as I just bought Diamond today!

My first DS game in quite a while.

From what I have gathered (and this information was very spotty) you can have all but 4 of the original 150. I'm guessing that those are Mewtoo and the three special bird pokemon. Just because you can get them doesn't mean they will appear in the wild but are just available for transfer from older games, but some are available I think.

Sorry for being so vague but I am quite surprised that even Wikipedia had no confirmation about any of this.

Wish me Luck.

Good Luck!

As for catching them all......it is possible (believe me, I know!) to have owned all 493 pokemon in the Diamond and Pearl Pokedex......but not all of them can be caught in the game. All of the 'Legendary' pokemon from previous generations must be transferred via the pal park, which is not available to you until you have beaten the Elite 4. Nearly everything else may be caught, although some of the pokemon require you to have either Fire Red, Leafy Green or Emerald in the GBA slot of your DS to activate them in your current version.

Trade is the best way to succeed in your quest.

@yingandyang - you have to complete the sinnoh pokedex first (150 pokemon) before earning the right to the national pokedex (493). That is why!

Yes.....totally impossible to get all 493.

You obviously know more about this game than I do.

Idiot.Think before you post. And only post about things that you know.

I played it quite a bit yesterday and am somewhat disappointed.

It's not that it is a bad game, in fact it is really good, but having played Pokemon Blue (I would have thought more would have changed over that much time) it seems quite familiar.

Not the Pokemon (although I did find exactly the same pokemon in the mine in Oresomething that were in the first cave in Blue) there was a nice mix of them only seeing four that I remember and at least six I haven't seen.

It's just the game feels so similar, maybe that will change as I move along.

If you've never played a pokemon game before I heartily recommend it but for those that aren't hardcore fans but have played one of the others, just don't expect a different game.

Also, my current favourite is Shinx.

Yes....you will find a few of the pokemon are familiar....mixed in with the older ones that you know and hate (zubat *shudders*). The fun is in finding out how each one evolves etc. (HINT stick with that shinx........ and find a starly!)

The feeling of familiarity won't leave you. It is essentially the same game with some updates. Similar puzzles, similar storyline, similar opponents. I have still enjoyed playing it though. Once you defeat the Elite 4 and get the National Pokedex, well, that's the beginning of the game....... A good online resource is

Serebii.net Diamond & Pearl Pokédex

Gives you all the information about the pokedex you could want.

I thought it was just me who disliked Zubat. As an idea they are good, but in game they are soo annoying. Just spent ages trying to escape from a cave but they kept attacking. Should probably try using repel.

My shinx evolved today, doesn't look quite as cute, but does look tougher. I've also caught a Starly but have yet to use it much.

Currently trying to build Kricketune into a useful member of my team. Not happening at the moment though, when I went back to visit home it took a least five fury cutters to finish off a lv3 starly, it was level 11 at the time.
