MarioKart DS no fair.

3 quickies here.

Firstly, my mariokart main screen seems to have changed overnight into this:



Does this signify anything in particular?

Secondly, is it just me or does it seem to cheat a wee bit....especially on the 150cc/150cc mirror courses?
Example....a very close race between me and 2 other CPU's:
I'm in the lead.......along comes a blue shell
I therefore lose the lead........no blue shell appears for the new leader
I gain the lead again.......within 1 corner another blue shell just for me
I therefore lose the lead........no blue shell appears for the leader
I gain the lead yet again.......lo and behold, another blue shell just for me
I lose the lead and have to regain it again....this time no more blue shells till end of race

....but that's an awfully strong consistency,,,,and it's happened quite a few times where I get the lead.
In fact, the record in one race for me alone has been 5 shells.

What is it with these blue ones anyway...can't they be "banned" somehow (a preference I'm missing?).

Thirdly, I've only had it for a couple of weeks but I still haven't figured out how to powerslide. Well I can powerslide, but I don't go round corners any faster and don't get those yellow flames.

Any tips on how to do it?

while blue shells can be VERY annoying, you should play double dash and you'll see how toned down they have become in the ds version. i think nintendo must have put those blue shells(or fu***ng blueys as most people call them) into the game to give your friends a chance, hopefully they will be left out in future games or at least be able to turn them off. your new main screen has become like this after completing the main game in all classes, it is your reward from nintendo and is now your status symbol, you should now aim for three stars in every race and whenever you race anyone, they will see 3 gold stars above your kart symbolising the elite. but 1st you gotta master those slides, after lots of practise you will find that you can power round every corner in the game as well as all the way up the straights and some corners you can cut out all together by sliding. people say snaking as it's called is cheating, it is not. it comes at a price and that is many hours of practice.
incidently powersliding is done by turning your craft into the corner then jumping, while still holding the jump button flick your thumb to away from the corner then back again to turn your sparks red, then repeat to turn the sparks blue then lift your finger off the jump button - hey presto, speed boost.

Its because you've beat the game that your screen changes

You must have done something pretty good to do it, maybe get all stars?

If being chased by a blue shell, fall back into second place ASAP. If your too far away to do that, I doubt you'll go behind several places from the impact.

also keep invincibility stars for blue shells, if you get a star in first place, the chance is there is a bluey coming your way pretty soon. i've heard that you can kill a bluey with a bomb but i've never managed to do it.

has anyone come across those cheatin' japs on the wifi connection? i've had my kart hijacked, my screen switched off and my head messed with by their crazy hacks. i only play continental nowadays because of that.

I haven't quite got all stars yet. I love racing games and dove straight into ths one. I basically can't powerslide properly so I never do.....I just try to get the "racing line" all the time.

I'm working towards stars in everything....so far I have doubles (one triple) in 50cc, singles/doubles in 100cc, and singles/A's in 150+150mirror.

The problem is, once you're used to 150cc, you don't want to go back to improve your scores on 100 or 50 as it seems too slow.

Re: bluey's...they're similar to a weapon from wipeout series that did similar, but in that franchise, they weren't so plentiful

i think i zoomed through the main game and then when i went back to get the stars thats when i really mastered the powerslides, you've just got so much extra time. usually i can get so far in front blue shells don't really slow me down anyways and i alwyas hold on to invinsibility.

Have you finished mission mode? that might explain it, that or beating mirror mode.

I think it was mirror mode in hindsight.

I've been informed that completing all the missions only unlocks all the cars, so the more I think about it, it must've been the 150cc mirror's that did it.
