Guitar Hero: On Tour Review. As written by J-Monkey XD
As I lost the blog competition (congrat’s to Nicko again

) and there isn’t a sub-forum doing reviews of DS games (quite shocked actually…) I’ve decided to post my review of Guitar Hero: On Tour in the DS section

. This is Activision's first released attempt at a Guitar Hero game a) on the DS and b) without Harmonix by their side. So let’s get to it
The Package.
No not the packaging… What actually comes with it. Like the Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii, it comes with a ‘Guitar’ if you would describe as that. This being the ‘Guitar Grip’. So how can you enjoy a Guitar Hero game without a guitar? Well it’s hard, and tricky to pick up if you’re used to Guitar Hero games. This can be slightly annoying if you had an original DS though (like myself) because you have to change the adapter in the Guitar Grip so it fits into the GBA slot. You soon get to grips with it though

.
Also with the game is:
·
Stickers, to put on your Guitar Grip do make it more personalised

·
A stylus, cleverly shaped like a pick so you can strum away a lot easier

·
Guitar Grip (as already mentioned) with adjustable hand strap.
The Gameplay.
Ok so here, you have the notes scrolling down on the left screen and the guitar, star power bar, points, and the rectangular traffic light thingy saying how well your doing, your multiplayer and note streak.
There are a few different options on the single player screen:
·
Career, just like any other GH game. Pick your rocker, your guitar and your ready to go. You’ll also earn money to purchase new things

·
Guitar Duels. You can duel your friends or the computer and you battle items to distract and annoy opponents whether being the computer or your mates. If you complete all the songs on one difficulty level you unlock the song ‘I am not your Gameboy’ by Freezepop. More on that later.
·
Practise. Where you practise songs.
·
Tutorial. Learn how to play.
·
Quickplay. Play a song and try and get a high score
Songs
Overall there are 26 songs. Despite the lack they are not bad. IN the following sections I’ll give a ‘[D]’ if I downloaded them. [1999] the date next to the song. The song will be written first. And a number in a box like this [5] meaning my 5th favourite song on the game. [GH] means that this has been on Guitar Hero 3
Subway
Do what you want by OK Go [2005][18]. This is a bog standard start to the game.
All the small things by blink-182 [1999][3][D]. This is more like it. Expert on this is a hand killer xD
Spiderwebs by No Doubt [1995][13][D] This isn’t bad either. Quite long though for an easy track. My best ever performance was on this song 266,000 points and a 462 note streak
Are you gonna be my girl? By Jet [2003][23]. This sucks. If you want someone to be your girl you ask once, not a repeated number of times or else she’ll get annoyed and slap you in the face.
We’re not gonna take it! By Twisted Sister.[1984][10][D]. Good song, good song indeed.
[u]Rooftop[u]
All Star by Smash Mouth [1999][15]. Stick to the England theme tune. That was much better.
Breed by Nirvana [1991][7][D]. I like this. Great song. Chorus especially
Jessie’s Girl by Rick Springfield [1981][6][D]. Two good’uns in a row. The verses are a little quiet though…
Hit me with your Best Shot by Pet Benetar.[1980][19][GH]. What’s it really doing here. Yes it has guitar but Pat Benetar is a bit of a joke…
This Love by Maroon 5 [2002][20] If you like this song you are thoroughly confused.
Parade
Heaven by the Los Lonely Boys [2004][9][GH][D]. Not bad this song, but it seems a lot older than it actually is...
Helicopter by Bloc Party [2005][22]. Firstly what the h*ll is a Bloc Party? It doesn’t sound very fun. Secondly this is worse than Maroon 5…
China Grove by The Doobie Brothers. [1973][16]. Doobie, wasn’t that the house elf in Harry Potter, oh no that was Dobbie, my mistake
I wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll all Nite by Kiss [1975][12][GH][D]. Kiss can’t spell, but they are a great band
What I Want by (Chris) Daughtry. [2007][4][D]. Despite the modernisation, this is a great song
Greek Arena
Jet Airliner by Steve Miller Band [1977][23]. To be fair this is the 2nd best song in the Greek Arena… the worst is yet to come.
Black Magic Woman by Santana [1970][26][GH]. Worst. Song. On. The. Game.
Stray Cat Strut by The Stray Cats. [1981][24] This is quite poor too.
La Grange by ZZ Top. [1973][25][GH]. No.
Youth Gone Wild by Skid Row [1989][1][D]. Amongst all the grovel put on by the Greek Arena this is just about the best song on the game
Battleship
I Don’t Wanna Stop by Ozzy Osbourne. [2007][11][D]. He’ll stop eventually, despite the fact he doesn’t want too
Anna Molly by Incubus. [2006][5][D]. Good song this is and easily deserved as one of the best 5 on the game
Knock Me Down by Red Hot Chilli Peppers. [1989][2][D]. This was just pepped at the post by Skid Row. Great song this. I don’t know what it is about rock songs from the 1989…
Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughan. [1983][17][GH]. Meh, this is ok, couldn’t quite reach the top half though.
I know a little by Lynyrd Skynyrd. [1977][14]. << Don’t know if I spelt that right ;P but this is a fairly good song to wrap up a good game.
Bonus
The Bonus song as I metioned earlier is ‘
I am not your Gameboy’ by Freezepop [?][7][D]. This a sort of a dance rock sort of thing and it was obviously chosen as the Bonus song because of it’s name. I don’t know what is has that some of the others don’t have but I sort of like it…
Summary
To be fair Activision have done a fairly good job on this. They’ve tried hard to but a good Guitar game on the DS, which they have successfully done, and at quite a good price. People have mixed opinions on this but I think it’s very good. I’ll give this and
87% (8.7/10) and that big 13% chunk has been lost only due to the amount of songs on the game, 26 is
not enough.
