Picross
Just played a demo of this on the Nintendo Channel. For anyone who owns the game, how many puzzles are there to complete? I'm interested in getting this, provided there are enough puzzles to keep me going for a while.
any puzzles that you do create yourself can be uploaded to your own ‘puzzle area’ at Nintendo, then downloaded and shared by anyone on your friends list, which is a nice touch rather than just the local wireless. But the best thing I find about this game is something amazing - downloadable content. Yes, every single week, Nintendo of Japan have release a new downloadable pack of 10 puzzles for no cost, taken from the previous 11 Picross games on Nintendo systems, meaning an infinite number of puzzles. And now these packs are making their way over here in Europe every week... genius.
There are just over 300 puzzles on the cart, and many more downloadable. It's a seriously good game, which I've just completed 100%
Some of the puzzles are fiendishly hard, but perservere and you'll do it.
If you want a more in depth try, then Mario's Super Picross is available to download from the Virtual Console. Originally a Japanese only SNES game, it was released last year in the first Hanabi festival.
My biggest piece of advice would be to ditch the touchscreen controls and use the manual controls - it's much easier when you get onto the later 20x25 size puzzles.
Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Guitar Hero III, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Battalion Wars 2, Medal of Honour: Heroes 2, Mario Strikers Charged, Excite Truck, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Big Brain Academy, Metal Slug: Anthology, Wii Play, PES 2008, Endless Ocean, Super Paper Mario
DS:
Mario Kart, More Brain Training, Advance Wars: Dark Conflict, 42 All Time Classics, Project rub, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Yoshi's Island DS, Picross DS
360:
Halo 3, Mass Effect, COD 4, Ghost Recon, FIFA 09, Top Spin 3, Portal: Still Alive, Geometry Wars 2: Evolved
Also if you like this the one the one I'd consider the king of them all is "Illust Logic DS + Colorful Logic"
Yes I know it's a ridiculous name
It's Picross done to perfection. You'd have to import it as it's Japanese only I'm afraid, but the menus are breeze to figure out. It's by Hudson Soft who just know how to do puzzle games right, and this is awesome and has a huge section of colour puzzles to do as well.
If you're a big puzzle fan (as I am) then I'd also highly recommend by them one called "Puzzle Series Vol. 5: Slither Link", which is possibly the best puzzle game I've played on any system. Again it's Japanese only but menus are fairly easy and there's even a site somewhere that has translated them.
I got Picross a couple of months ago after trying it on the download sample from the Wii. As most people have said, it's a seriously under-rated game, and very addictive.
The initial cartridge has 300 puzzles on it which are gradually unlocked as you progress. There are a couple of play formats: Easy, Normal and Freemode.
Easy is as it would suggest allowing you to get into the swing of things, Normal extends the grid and challenges, and freemode takes a little more explaining.
The option to use 'logic' in Freemode is taken away. This means it gives you the option to try different combinations without messing up the board. An overlay option is there for use which can be either applied or deleted if you're not confident with it.
All in all the game is great fun, challenging and engaging.
Like Brain train it offers a daily play section which asks you to do puzzles as quickly as possible. Again, the more frequently you play, the more variations open for you. As simple as they may look, put a clock on, and they suddenly become rather awkward!
If you decide to get this, perseverance would be suggested, and don't guess. Up until 'Free Mode, everything can be worked out 'Logically'
