XBox 360 three red lights

Switched mine on last night and got the three red lights, it's dead. I can get it repaired for fifty quid but have been warned it might happen again.

Is this still a major problem?
If so, I might not bother if it's gona happen again. I haven't wasted much cash on it up to date so I'm wondering if I should quit the 360 altogther

This is why I avoided the 360 to begin with, I have no warrenty with it to claim on.

How old is it Speebox? I thought all 360's now have a 3 year warranty for RRoD, from the date of console manufacture (Which I believe is stamped on the back of the console).

To think I was about to press 'confirm' on buying a 360 from Game, think I'll await your reply :S

You could do what i did when my xbox broke!

Do the towel trick (can be found on google) to get it working again for a few hours then trade it in at game. Most of them dont have a tv to play it on so just plug it in and check it powers up, they wont run it for long.

I was told by microsoft i had to pay 65 quid to fix mine so did the above and got 135 quid from game!

Game will be able to get it repaired for free if someone buys it and brings it back so dont feel too bad!

Dont bother doing this it does NOT work! also imagine how you would feel if you got an xbox this way and it broke within an hour or so! ring ms and they should sort you out, i sent mine back to them and it was repaired and sent back in 7 days, the manufacture date is stamped on the back of the console near the av/hd/tv ouput cable thingy slot.

Or you could just buy a new one, with all the new hardware in, should not be any problems with the newer consoles.

dont let rrod storys make you go off an xbox if you buy one and it breaks in one year you get one for free from game , within 3 years you get it fixed within 2 weeks from microsoft , plus new hardware decreeses the likly hood of rrod ..

I can't return it to microsoft as it was already modded when I brought it second hand. Only got it so I could play burnout paradise

like I say get it fixed easily enough for just £50, that's not my worry, my main concern is will it happen again in two months time? The guy that's gona fix it says it can happen again.

Wouldn't do the towel trick to trade in at game cos it's not my style. Some poor sod might have saved his pocket money for ages to get one and would be gutted to find it don't work. I still have a conscience ya know.

I am sure when ms return the xbox you get a 3 or 6 month warranty on the work they have just done (the repair)

This happened to my next door neighbour a few days ago. He bought his xbox off someone at work and then about a month later he got the three red lights. For this each xbox originally came with 1 year warranty but due to all the problems microsoft have extended it to two years. As a result they rang up microsoft and they picked it up tjhe next day and said it will be returned to you some time next week for no charge at all. Excellent service I thought!
