I've been following the recent discussions regarding the lack of 32-player online support for the forthcoming Wii FPS releases (COD5, Conduit, QoS etc.).
This got me thinking, is 32 players on-line really all it's cracked up to be OR is it simply too many players in one game?
What is mean is, because a game can be flooded with so many players does it hamper the flow and enjoyment of the game? For instance, I've found that 32 max player games (that are either fully or nearly full) tend to suffer from more lag, more Team Killings, more re-spawn killings ... oh and being shot in the back every five seconds 'COS THERE'S JUST TOO MANY PEOPLE RUNNING ABOUT!!!
I've played Battlefield with 64 and it's great, though I prefer it at 48. Depends on how scalable the maps are, and it helps if there are mods to kick off those who abuse the game.
Oogie has enjoyed Professor Layton over xmas.
Oogie's alteregos Lock, Shock and Barrel are into NDS homebrew, and are:
- very pleased with themselves for cracking the router problems
- enjoying the wifi connectivity with homebrew IRC
ET:QW seems solid with 8 Vs 8. And given the Bots counting for the absent Human players, it means that you'll ALWAYS have plenty of characters on both sides.
Imo, 16 and lagfree (though ET:QW has lag, I'm not basing my opinion off that) is better than 32 and lag-ridden.
Smoothness of gameplay is CRITICAL. I'd rather play with just FOUR players so long as it didn't lag!
I agree - if it's going to lag then there's no point. Again that was something the mods would sort out - if your ping was over a certain amount you would get bounced. Just remembered I did play 128 once, it was a test, no lag but it was unplayable because the map wasn't designed for it. But the test was all about lag, not gameplay, so I guess it passed!

Could I ask what (UK) internet connections people have?
I have Virgin Cable Broadband (2Meg Download/256K Upload), but it's a SHARED connection, and the person who it's shared with really likes MSN! :/ *Facepalm*
So I can RARELY play online without a DISGUSTING amount of LAG. I'd like to know what service and speed is best and how most people play (relatively) lagfree!
