So being that my birthday comes uncomfortably close to Christmas I’ve had the joy of playing Mario Galaxy, since im sure a few of you want it for xmas let me just excite you a bit more with my take on it.
Super Mario Galaxy is the latest 3d Mario game by his famous creator Miyamoto, this man has frequently been hailed as the greatest creative mind being gaming. Personally I wasn’t convinced but I did know SMG would defiantly be some good fun…
So while the simple game play practice of flying from one planet to another provides huge reinvention to the Mario franchise the game rarely seems to care. This is clear in the way Galaxy never takes itself seriously, the stale plot is more than aware of its redundancy (Peach gets kidnapped by bowser) and as such is played down for the game play a refreshing break from other heavy weights such as Halo that try to be epic but get it so very wrong.
The designers have really embraced the minimalist planet structure of Galaxy. In short Miyamoto more than ever can make each and every mini planet, cluster or large land mass whatever he desires and he whole heartedly succeeds in creating so many memorable and interesting areas to explore the players memory of the experience will contain not so much a set of stand out moments but rather just a big bundle of experiences that could be labelled under pure entertainment.
Graphically SMG excels as the Wii's best looking title with astounding lava effects and shiny icy rings. More importantly however the game feels vibrant, full of life with each level succeeding in feeling like a real galaxy with distant inaccessible planets in the far distance contributing to that. Every level has its own theme with old favourites returning such as dusty desert and boo's manor.
Musically galaxy rivals its older brother Sunshine and last years contender Zelda with an orchestrated soundtrack of famous Mario tunes remixed along with new more ambient and bombastic tracks. The soundtrack for the most part is played down for the vibrant amount of sounds and atmosphere Mario's friends and foes provide, playing this game without sound is a crime.
I've been unconvinced by Sunshine and Mario 64 great as they were and always thought that Miyamoto was a little bit overrated, but maybe because he was just building up for Mario Galaxy his master piece, 'hell' the best game Nintendo’s put out since the wind waker, a game so focused on providing entertainment that its a breath of fresh air, I simply can't recommend it enough.

Anyway I won't be playing on it tomorrow but I'll play it near Xmas. I've only heard good things about this game
