Default For anyone intrested, my poetry

I've been working on this set of several poems, interlinked with one concept. I'd appreciate any feedback. Or what you think the set is about.

Prologue

We all have a castle in the sky,
But do we reach it?
How high is it?
Who builds the castle?
Who maintains it till you arrive?
And what if you don't?
Who says who's castle is who's?
Why do we steal each others castles?
Step on and slow down others elevations?
Why fight and die for someone else's castle?
Is anyone elses worth dying for?
Is yours?
Why don't we help each other reach there faster?
Why are some against that?

Pass some bricks, that cherry picker,
My castle is higher than yours, so im a better person.
I'm smarter, brighter, prettier and way more privileged.
So why don't you just lay down so I can stand on you?

Though it may take a while more,
Take your time climbing and be kind.
And then you arrive, You'll feel all the more proud.
But a different pride to him.

And what colour will you use to decorate your castle?
What shall you hang on the draw bridge to greet?
A tiger, some smelly cash or 'come on down'?
Will you even get visitors?
Shall you have a moat? And guards?
When you get there? Shall you buy a boat?
To get back down to where you began?
Shall you throw down a rope?
Shall you forget about rope?

Will you get here at your own pace?
Or will you get caught up in this hellish race?
Or will you end up pesimistic and broken,
With your castle crashing to the ground and crushing you and those you care about?
Will the castle destroy you?
Will the castle accept you?
Do you even need a castle at all?

Handing out the green card

And she hands out the green card and thinks she's doing you a favour.
We eat it up with both hands, hungrily.
Telling us exactly what we wanted to hear.

Any dream you want, green card, enjoy.
Want to be a cleaner? Don't that's demeaning.
But if you really want to be a cleaner?
Really, want to be cleaner?
Green card there's the door.
Someone's got to hold those castles up for inspection.
And incidentally you can conquest, while we all sit through college,
university and the resulting degree.

I'd still take a battering ram to the mad women's brain though,
What a career she claimed.
Was it what she wanted? Or had she aimed to high? Or low?
Was her husband a nice man or a slob?
Did he do the housework or create it?

At the time we made jokes, 'lets all be career advisors'
'Lets all be job advertisers'.
Ha, lets all be cleaners, drug dealers and rogues.
Were only young, who cares about that castle?
That's yet to come.

Support

Your my support guys,
Your my scaffolding on the way to the sky,
If I get there any time soon I have you to thank.
Though has to be said you aren't my think tank.
And your skies may be more foggy than me,
But maybe that's why I give the advice,
And i'd like to think i'm a stepping stone,
So you don't have to do it on your own,
Whatever it is you want to do,
I'll be here for you.
For higher or lower,
for faster or slower.
Just let me bask in your good fortunes,
And be happy through you.
And ill get there faster,
Thinking of all of you.

Dreams (Three different ones)

Like a rock, you don't climb and falter, you just wait for someone to pick you up,
Build yourself a nice big wall in the back garden, lose your glorious self for someone else,
Endlessly persuing a mainstream dream, denouncing all but what you trust, no matter how reasonable and righteous.
And sure you'll have more confidence in what you teach, though sadly your inclined to preach,
On the streets or the mount of a jail, bashing in heads with your jargon buster,
And you'll never get off your knees to learn to fly.

So father built him a castle firmly in the ground and raised his flag for him,
And junior found with everything in plain sight, his sky was blue and clear,
Anything that would prove hard to succeed could be solved with due financial steed,
Then one day, father wasn't around, nobody cared how he died, just those jem stones in juniors eyes,
And so the world took him to town and forced away the family crown,
And juniors sky was blue and empty.

Those clouds would fill up with flying fortresses and everybody would know their rank,
At demand, a talented band playing songs for your pleasure, world at your leisure,
Despite your horrible persona people will love and respect you,
You mock other idols, do away with people not on your side,
You sir, can even get away with genocide.

My castle, your castle?

On a castle covered in moss, on a hill that would be of no strategic advantage were there no war,
Were many a guardsman holding the left side, humbily putting their personal ambitions aside,
And held their prized posessions close to hand and heart, so they could lose them, worst happens.

And off went a beautiful display of fireworks, had they been recreational,
Sadly the evil things missed their targets due to the collective mist,
So the boys needed to get closer,

And once they could recognise that familiar humanity in each others eyes,
It was still time to fight and beg and die.
And as instructed they gave no ground or mercy,
So it ended up far worse that neccasary,
Till the tanks rolled in to dictate the taking of lives and sparing of others.

And after the collective mist had faded,
Came some vultures to assess the damage.
And a cold man with a book of common sense stood on his crushed castle.
All that he found was its strategic value was deminished.

Death

And they didn't just kill him,
They ran him over with a car,
They got him drunk in a bar,
Tread on him with muddy boots,
Then stuck the spirs in to wake him up,
Stole and shattered his piggy bank,
Hit him hard with a baseball bat,
And emptied his pockets.

And they didn't just bury him,
They sold his lungs,
Ripped out his heart,
Didn't go to his funeral,
Didn't really care
And had better things to do.

Too busy gazing hungrily at their own,
Didn't notice a dear neighbours castle had gone.

Less People

I remember how I wanted the common dream,
I didn't even care if life was just one long routine,
A house not quite a castle,
A car not quite a jaguar.

And one day out living I stumbled upon,
love at first sight,
nothing short of visual delight.

You've got the best eyes,
The best eyes i've ever seen,
Pull me in, shine and gleam,
Just the best i've ever seen.

And after not long at all,
Theres more pairs of shoes in the hall,
Two wonderful baby girls,
And i'm just dreaming.
World tilts around like a heart beat today.
But I can only just do it my way,
Like the rest of the human race,
I'll have doubts and fears to adress.

But soon comes stress,
Civil unrest, the girls get *****y,
My trigger finger gets sore and itchy,
And now when I look into their empty eyes,
I see nothing but reflections of my skies.
And the reality, im too eager to fly.

Fame (a case study)

Your just a TV for us to tune in,
So don't make too much of a din,
Or we just won't let you join in,
I hope you learned the knocks already, kid,
Fames in its essense is an ego game.

You might very well be something special,
But is it profitable for us to let you forfill potensial?
Why would we gamble when we know what works?
Creativity doesn't always get us the green perks,
Me and my friends think we would rather you copy this guy,
Take that creative head of yours out of the sky.

And after a few successes, good to hear,
Lock the door, bar the window, the medias here,
And the world knows you abandoned your family.
But trust us we did it too.

Just keep churning out that proccessed mainstream food,
And I assure you, they will love you.
And as you grow old and bare,
You'll find it gets easier every day,
To kid yourself that,
Your one of those lucky few,
Who make of themselves what they ought to.

The view

Told you the view from up here was splendid,
Everything is exactly as you expected,
And everybody is accountable for your actions,
And everyone listens to you,
And your neighbours are as elite as you,
But you still look further up, past the safe view.
And that gets the cogs turning in that over wheeled winder,
Gets the money circulating tighter and tighter round the binder,
Strangling tight others but your loving it.
You just can't be reached anymore.

Will you do what you planned whilst on the ground?
Now that your castle casts a fearful shadow?
Not that you can even look down,
Its all obscured by thick cloud,
Blocking your vision, for all your sinful wishing.
And those cogs weaken and creak,
And the supporting binder dares to weak.
So much for your metalic grip.

What has it got you in the end?
A ticket out of mass extermination,
A right to play god,
But for the height you hold,
By standing on your lovers and peers,
You'll just have even futher down to go,
Now its all over.

But oh this is no meer sky dive,
Fast, quick and desperate you'll cling to survive,
People pull away, faceless beggars retreat,
Shepard dead, look at the sheep, rejoicing,
Deep down in your cold heart you'll always know,
That twisted dream was really just ego.

And what will become of your castle?
Where will you go from here?
Have I changed you mind?
Have I scared you?
Think about it long and hard,
Before I present to you, your green card.
