This has cropped up a few times on this forum lately so this is a little FAQ and recommendation on the option of having a Wii and a 360.
What is Wii60?
This is a phrase for having a Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 console combination coined last year when Sony announced the price of their PS3.
Why did it stick?
Well the phrase Wii60 was backed up by a powerful website
Wii60
which used a campaign of photoshopped images to make its point. Microsoft residents were seen to back the Wii against Sony forming beliefs in a partnership till Nintendo shot this down in flames.
So what is so good about Wii60?
Well both the Wii and the 360 have different weaknesses and strengths combining them both gives more chance of satisfaction than a sole PS3. You can also buy a Wii and a 360 for the price of a PS3.
I've split the two consoles into factors to review for yourself.
Gaming
The 360 has a large amount of mature games to brag mostly gun orientated. Gears of war, Halo, call of duty (online) Crackdown, Dead rising, GRAW and many racing games like Forza and Project Gotham. Make it a good choice for gamers who like mature plesures. The Wii compliments this beautifully with a large amount of friendly family games, platformers and epic adventures like Zelda. For a gamer who likes choice the Wii60 option is very promising. Compared to Sonys less established brands such as Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter. Sonys game line up is varied to a degree but in the long run the Wii60 option gives you an established group of games and genres for a cheaper price that a sole PS3.
Online
Nintendos online is pretty much in its infancy which matters not when the Xbox 360 is top of the range for this. Sure you have to pay about £3 a month but for one saturday night your playing online with an established group of mates you've saved on going to the cinema or pub ectra more you play it after that, more you profit.
Friend codes arn't on MS's service or Sonys. Both offer friend lists and other sophisticated methods of making friends and ignoring assholes. Then when people are around at your house Nintendo's Wii has you covered with a large amount of multiplayer fun. So internet gaming or crowded in your room Wii60 has you covered. Ps3 has limited house party fun, compared to a Wii though their online service is free.
Multimedia
Burn some CD's onto your 360 to get sound quality far higher than crappy PC speakers. Organise into a playlist ectra like it was your PC, you can link the PC up to the Xbox 360 as well. Then listen to your music as you shoot people in the head online, build a big base in command and conquer 3 ectra.
Sure you can do this on Sony's service too but the point is you can't on the Wii. So for a minority of us this feature really covers the wonders of the Wii60.
But Xbox360's have a large failure rate
Very true but keep your reciept and you can get it exchanged 'if' it goes wrong with a trip to your local store. (don't buy of the net...)
Still theres a relitively low risk your 360 will crash, analysts reckon that its about 20%.
Xbox live is full of people who try to ruin the experience
Trust me, so will the Wii or PS3 in time, those people who turn off the console losing in Strikers will be the same bigots, loud mouths and unplesents you get on live. Good thing is you can set them to ignore, mute them and simply play with your friends instead. Welcome to the internet, its full of idiots.
Please feel free to ask any other questions, hope this guide helps people planning a xbox 360.
