i hate sony and its pee-**** 3 but i did find stardust HD quite fun and it looks very pretty indeed, but its still an awful lot for a souped up java game.

I was going to get a PS3 until I realised that the main differences between it and the 360 were a higher quality of HD and, of course, the Blu-Ray player. Since I don't have a HD ready TV in my room (yet) and am not really interested in Blu-Ray, I decided to save £200 and opt for the 360.
I can see Whatdoesntdie's points though. If you want a Blu-Ray player and have a HD ready TV, then the PS3 is a good choice. I also never really liked Microsoft and was always a Sony/Nintendo man myself, until I saw the price of the PS3. £450 is a lot to pay for a console.
I bet you have about three dvd player in your household anyway.
You've probably got one in your living room, one in your computer maybe one is your ps2 or xbox, why would you need another?
No, we have one. Which we keep in a cupboard and bring it out when we want to watch a DVD.
The problem is that we got a LCD tv which we put on the wall, to free up some space in the living room. I can just about manage to hide the Wii, but I've nowhere to put a dvd player, it seems a bit pointless putting a tv cabinet in the room for just a DVD player, when the whole point of the tv on the wall was too free up space.
The Wii can read DVD's, it really wouldn't have taken them much to put the functionality in.

I've noticed on all the ebay listings that one of the technical specs is 'Optional DVD playback'. There is an old thread on here somewhere where we discussed whether this means the Wii has the capabilities to read and play DVDs and just needs a bit of software downloaded. Maybe for some Wii points or something...

I will keep buying games for 360 like the shooting and racing ones which are great but i want to the wii to have fun on platform type games and when buying wii games i will mainly just buy the ones exclusivley for wii like zelda, marios and party games etc and buy shooters for the 360.

I gather from various websites that most multi-format titles start life on the 360 anyway, meaning that (currently) any advantages the PS3 architecture may have aren't being exploited.
That said, I do have a hd tv, and £350 for a blu-ray player is fairly competitive.
