I don't see the point of having a dvd player inbuilt into your games console! It's just that a games console, should be left for well...playing games, let them invest money in making the console a far more greater experience at playing the games, having more multi user facilities etc.
No having a simple DVD player is a big negative for the Wii, IMHO.
I'm new to all this, don't bite my head off if you've heard it all before....I have not :P

Very good points raised there Killarapp, especially the bit about online play. I myself am getting an Xbox 360 next week for the following reasons -
1. Same entertainment as a PS3, but a good deal cheaper
2. Best online service (Xbox Live)
3. Better catalogue of games than the PS3
4. For the price of 1 PS3 I can get my Wii and my Xbox 360! No contest there!

i would agree with 2 and 3 and 4.
not 1 because its not the same entertainement as the PS3 as you have the extra cost of HDMI cables and HD DVD player which adds up to the cost of a PS3 whereas the PS3 comes with all cables needed and a blu ray player built in (which IMO is better that HD DVD)
I'm not fussed on the whole Blu-ray HD thing, I've bought too many DVD's to care and it's all a bit similar to the whole Betamax VHS thing IMO. The Wii60 is the way forward, as you'll get Nintendo's AAA quality 1st party games and the big mulit-format hits on 360. As for the lack of DVD playback hurting the Wii, I don't think so, I've got seven devices in my house that will play DVD's-there's no need for the Wii too, I think Nintendo are right, the Wii is a games machine, nothing else. People don't whinge that their toaster doesn't make tea, do they?

Pity i wish mine did, saves running back and fourth turning on the toaster and then the kettle that are at opposite ends of the kitchen lol.
Nah i admit when i buy a games console i buy it for gaming and i love my wii, you cant beat it. I love the fact of the 360 having some great games and a huge collection, but i really hate microsoft, and i have always been a playstation/nintendo person thats why i have always bought nintendo and the previous 2 playstations with loads and loads of games.
Thats why i prefer the PS3 over the 360 although i want both. I think the PS3 will win the PS3/360 battle in the long run.
oh i dunno i want both, ive already got my wii. Am i talking crap now?

Never understood why people hate MS, ignore who makes the machine and enjoy the games mate! Get a 360 now, start playing Gears of War and Halo 3 and get a PS3 when the prices are sensible. That's what I'm doing.
