I posted this in the HelpDesk section before, but it didn't seem to be seen that much. Please give these FAQ a read if you are a new Wii user.
1) How do I find my Wii code?
YouTube - How to Find ur Wii Number
That video can’t make it any clearer!
2) How do I find my Mario Strikers friend code?
Couldn’t find a video for this, so I’ll try to explain.
First of all make sure you have your Wii connected to the internet. When you get to the main menu of Strikers, choose the online option. Select the Mii you wish to use (But don’t change it next time, as your code will change). After it has loaded, go to your friend roster, and your code will be at the top, just under the title.
3) Why does my blue light not stay on permanently when I turn it on, like in the adverts?
The only times the blue light comes on is for a split second when you turn the console on, and when you get a message sent to you, while your console is in standby mode (with WiiConnect24 enabled). Also if you have downloaded the latest update (V3.0) then the blue light will come on when you insert or eject a disc.
4) Is there an option to make the blue light stay on permanently?
No, the only options concerning the blue light are for whether you want it bright, dim or off completely when you receive a message in standby mode (as talked about above)
5) Why, when I add people, can I not send them Miis or message them?
Both people have to add each other’s codes before any Mii or message sharing can take place. Then you have to wait for the name in the address book to turn black before they can be sent messages. No one quite knows what conditions have to be in place before the name turns black, but I believe it is when both people are connected to the internet through their Wii at the same time.
6) The name has turned black, but still no Miis! What have I done wrong?
People have to either set their Miis to mingle or they have to manually send the Miis individually themselves. If they don’t do either of these you won’t receive any Miis.
7) What is the purpose of Miis?
Miis are used in games like Wii Sports, Wii Play, WarioWare and Mario Party 8. It just adds a personal touch to games, where you can play as a character you created. Also, people use the Mii feature to create look-alikes of celebrities. According to Nintendo, a new channel is due for release that features Miis.
8 ) I have received a message, and read it, but the envelope in the corner still flashes. Why is this?
The envelope indicates how many messages you have for a particular day, not how many new messages you have waiting for you. Everything you do while on the Wii is recorded in a message, be it visiting the Mii Channel for a minute or playing Zelda for 10 hours solid. Therefore you will always have a message, and the envelope will always flash, even if no one has sent you a message.
9) How do I register my Wii?
All Nintendo products (and, now, even some third party games) come with a Nintendo VIP card. This entitles you to 500 stars (for a console) or 250 stars (for a game) and is also a method of registering your Wii. If you live in America, however, I believe you can register using the serial code method.
10) What are Wii Points?
They are points that can be used to buy classic games from the Virtual Console of the Shop Channel, or Software, like the Internet Channel, also found in the Shop Channel.
Wii Points can either be bought in card form in most stores, which have a code printed on them. This code can be entered in the Shop Channel, giving the user 2000 points to spend. Alternatively, points can be bought though the shop itself, but a credit card is needed. Using this method means you can buy in smaller amounts of 1000 points.
11) Can I exchange VIP Stars for Wii Points?
Yes you can! As of December 2007, you can exchange your VIP Stars (found in most Nintendo exclusive games) for Wii Points. You will need to link your Club Nintendo account via the Shop Channel before you can do this. Just go to the Stars Catalogue and follow to link to the Wii Points Card shop site.
12) Why can’t I connect to Mario Strikers? It just gives me an error code.
Many people have problems with connected. The only way to solve this problem is to connect at a later date. It usually means the servers are very busy when it fails to connect. If the problem persists, post the error code in the Helpdesk, and one of our members will no doubt endeavour to help.
13) Can I use a USB keyboard with the Wii?
If you have downloaded the latest update (V3.0) USB keyboards can be used to type messages for your Wii friends, and also to type in Wii numbers and nicknames when adding new friends. You can now also use a keyboard with the Internet Channel, after performing a system update and then an Internet Channel update through the Shop.
14) If I buy a Wii game from another country, will it work on my UK console?
Consoles are encoded into different regions. Europe, including the UK, are PAL and the US is NTSC. Only PAL games will play on PAL consoles and Visa Versa. Here's a map to show you the different regions:
Hope this has helped some of you!
I know this hasn't covered everything, but I've tried to cover the most asked about things. If there is anything else I have missed, leave a suggestion here, and I will add it to the list. Don't make it to specific though, just common things.
