Default New here :)

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and it seems the "done thing" to post up and say hello.

I do have one question already (which is how I found this forum). I've just got myself a new TV and I wondered if anyone has had experience with using the Wii with a component cable? Is it worth getting?

Thanks all

Chris.

Welcome Stranger - very nice pub, did a little work there a few years ago. Friendly landlord. Good atmosphere.....

I digress

Yes it is if you have a reasonable TV (modernish CRT), absolutely if your set is HD ready. I would say going for a very expensive cable isn't really worth it - if in doubt, the Nintendo 'own brand' cable isn't the most pricey and performs admirably.

Thanks all

I ended up buying myself the official Wii component cable and I have to say that improve the picture. I've set it to EDTV/480p in the options as well, but I'm still getting a bit of jagged edges in some games?

Anyway, it's a lot better than the SCART cable that I was using in my old TV

I'm afraid that's quite common, if not universal, for Wii~TV combinations when using the high resolution. Having said that, I don't particularly notice the jaggedness any more and find the boost in resolution more than compensates for it.

Have you indulged in Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime: Corruption (or will you be getting The Conduit)? – all of these would be admirable candidates for showing the Wii graphically.

I'll be totally honest and say that I've not played it yet on the new EDTV setting. I had a busy day yesterday and I've got another busy day today, but I'll try and give it a go over the weekend.

Unfortunately, my Wii has only been used a handful of times since I bought it 18 months ago, but now I have it all plugged in, I'm going to be using it a lot more

I'll give Mario Galaxy a go on it and see how it looks

Welcome to Wiitalk Chrisbuer.

I'd agree with my firiend Mr Bede here in that the component cable is well worth a purchase. The graphics can be abit more blocky than with the composite cable but the benefits of improved resolution and better colours etc more than make up for it.
