Europe: Wii Sells 350,000 in Two Days

Nintendo has successfully launched Wii in all three major territories and everything points to an unqualified success, as Nintendo Europe announced today they had sold more than 350,000 machines across Europe in just two days. By comparison, the United States snapped up just over 600,000 in a week's time. That's a pretty incredible launch adoption rate.

"For those who were unable to buy Wii during the launch weekend, rest assured more stock is already on its way and we are doing everything possible to ensure that a steady supply of Wii units is shipped to stores across Europe throughout December and into 2007," said Nintendo Europe Marketing Director Laurent Fischer in an announcement release about the launch.

I still think this is all hype.

They probably have some huge tanker / ship just sitting outside the British Isles full up of Wii Consoles.

They create a bit of panic, everyone wants one and then the huge ship docks and has a queue of thousands wanting one. :-)

It's true, you need to keep demand high if the Wii is going to be a long term success. If everyone who wants one gets one straight away then they won't be telling their friends how much they want one - which is a form of free advertising. The trick is striking a perfect balance between supplying enough to get people interested and make money but not over-supplying.

That's easy for you to say, you got your Wii, I am still waiting for mine! I wish they would get their act together.
