Yeah I think Finetune is superb. Great selection on there too.

Has anyone tried using Orb to stream from pc to their Wii?

Orb Wii - PS3 - Xbox 360

You can play all your music / videos / photos on your PC through your Wii, and its free too! Got the Wii connected to the hi-fi so its great for playing the 1000's of mp3s on my PC.

Can be a little bit fiddly to configure your firewall to let it through, but its worth it. I think X-OOM are bringing out some kind of similar media centre thing for the Wii soon too, but that'll cost £30 to buy.

i have tried orb, and it isnt very good imo, as it takes virtually forever for the songs to start playing. i gave up after half hour of waiting for the songs to play

Yeah it was like that when I first tried it, and it was because my firewall was blocking it so wasn't streaming directly to the Wii via my router but going through the Orb servers.

Once I had got the firewall configured properly though it worked great, songs play straight away as they are being properly streamed through my wireless network.
Took a fairly extensive amount of time trawling through the Orb help pages though! Got quite technical and if you haven't got as much time to waste as me I can see it wouldn't be that great.
I reckon a package you have to pay for (like X-OOM) would prob take care of all that stuff for you, so hopefully would be a lot easier to set up.

Yeah it streams through your wireless network.

Its funny as my dad had been wanting to buy a streamer for his hi-fi for ages, but when I showed Orb on my Wii he went out and bought a Wii instead for that reason! And he loves it too, also got him addicted to Wii Sports.

Videos work fine although I only play short clips from my digital camera so don't know how it would cope with longer ones (films and stuff.) Reckon it should work fine though.

I finally got round to trying orb last night -

I like the music player and technology behind what they are trying to do but for Video it does suck - good for little clips but it cant go full screen its jerky and very reduced quality.

However using orb to access things on your p.c whilst away from home is very good ! - I can download photos, files - anything by logging into their site a quick easy alternative to expensive complicated software.

will wait to see what Xoom do - I hope their "media centre" software can do everything I need - would be quite nice for the wii to play all my movies and media !
