There was an article by the BBC about it some time ago. Basically some work, but there difficult to get, and I dareay most are just scams.

They are Matrix schemes, similar to pyramid schemes. Trust me, you will never end up with a free Wii, but you will pay them something to move up the list..

There is no such thing as a free lunch!

Even if you manage to pick one that isn't a scan you tend to have to give them every single piece of personal information that you can. You then tend to have to sign up loads of people to do the same before being in with any kind of chance of getting something for free!

They then sell on your personal information and you then end up being bombarded with phone calls, junk mail and spam!

I'm not saying they are all like this, but a lot of them are.

Someone who works near where a mate of mine works is a self-made millionaire and must still be in his teens or just hit his 20s.

A member of his family is in the sweet business so he wondered what he could do with some sweets he could buy at wholesale. Selling them would be too simple so he setup a website and gave a small bag of sweets away free...

When I say free, i mean in exchange for some information like your name and address, occupation, mobile number, if you are on pay as you go or contract mobile etc. etc.

The more info you gave the more free sweets you got.

He then had loads of information he could sell on (you agree to this else you dont get your sweets), to lots of different marketting companies and that's how he made his fortune!

Be very cautious about these sites and in my humble oppinion - if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Stay clear.

Most of them actually work, like that BBC article pointed out... but 'free' basically means either you spend a fair bit of money getting trial products or filling in forms for a fiver here and there or refer a few friends to do the same thing.

In the end, it's possible to get them, but most certainly not for free. One thing that article pointed out was, every time the website has to actually dispatch one of their 'free' items, it's at a loss to them - most people sign up, do a few things, make the website money and never actually complete the offer, I mean, after all, the prospect of a free Wii, xbox 360 or PS3 is quite nice..

If you do actually try one, find a UK only one and get you and a few friends to all refer each other at a cost, obviously, but a lot of people work them pretty well. If you're a something awful forum member, they used to have a thread where you could refer each other, some people even used to pay other members small amounts of money to do it for them.

Hope that answered your question
