I've read up a bit; basically this update will pop-up if you try to access the WiiShop, so unless you install the update no WiiShop for you!

Looks like the impact is minimal if you're already using one method to play imports (do PM me for details; I don't want to violate any rules), so the impact to me will be minimal when I put it on. I've decided to get a Japanese Wii in the next few months so I don't have an issue with those. The functioning solution should work for my US imports, so I'll be covered.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in response!

I installed it this morning before getting off to work - no time to look at what it might have done though.

Oogie has enjoyed Professor Layton over xmas.
Oogie's alteregos Lock, Shock and Barrel are into NDS homebrew, and are:
- very pleased with themselves for cracking the router problems
- enjoying the wifi connectivity with homebrew IRC

Looks like it is just more blocking of homebrew things?

Nintendo is at it again, unleashing yet another Wii Menu Update which puts us at 3.4, as our glowing Wii just informed us. Aside from augmenting the Nintendo User Agreement, the new system update will also "check for and automatically remove" all "unauthorized modifications to save files." Guess what, homebrew fans? The party is over forever put on hold for the time being

I downloaded it this morning. Again, nothing to fear, as everything on my wii is legit.

It actually made a point of stating onscreen that any unauthorised files on the wii would be deleted by this update!

I will do the update later aswell, I like to keep my Wii all up to date. I wish they would give us something actually worth updating for though

The udpate includes:
USB keyboard support in Mii Channel.
Enhanced parental controls.
Dramatically increased SD transfer speeds
New IOS50 and IOS254.
System Menu now runs on IOS50.
IOS254 was added to remove "PatchMii Core".
Patched to resist Twilight Hack 0.1beta1.

The SD transfer speed is apparently a significant speed boost. A 360 block Wiiware game can be transfered in 30 seconds as opposed to 15 minutes previously. I'm not sure if this is true, but i shall see when I'm playing World Tour tonight if it significantly speeds up DLC stuff.

Ooh that's great news! So we're one step closer to the promised load direct from SD storage solution. Cool.

Might start playing some of my VC games again if the transfer rate is so much better.
