Someone got paid for coming up with that idea. I'm in the wrong job, I can come up with poor ideas all day long if I'm paid for it.
Oogie has enjoyed Professor Layton over xmas.
Oogie's alteregos Lock, Shock and Barrel are into NDS homebrew, and are:
- very pleased with themselves for cracking the router problems
- enjoying the wifi connectivity with homebrew IRC
Well, if the version number doesn't increment that would appear to be a minor update; in this case only to the Shop Channel. I can't see why that would impact Freeloader/Homebrew folk any more than 3.2-3.3 did.
I just downloaded the update, and wow, way to make a step back (is this called a downdate?). The old shop channel was much more useful (ok, not such a huge step back, but still, an update is supposed to make things easier).

People mess with things for the sake of it. You only need to take Microsoft as an example of that, upgrading, updating, improving and complicating things at every turn.
I don't know about anybody else, but I use an anti virus software programme on my computer, does anyone spend hours trying to work out what the updates thrice weekly on theirs does?
That update took an age to download, there must have been more to it than a tweak to he shopping channel?!?

If it's MS updates you can clock them to find out what they're for, or go the the MS site. If it's AV updates, it's just adding more found viruses to the list. Kaspersky is updated more than a couple of times a week though!

* This blocks new installations of anything fakesigned, that is, Homebrew Channel, wads (legal and illegal), Starfall, cIOS, anything that installs IOSes secretly like AnyRegion Changer or AnyTitle Deleter, xyzzy and DVDX (used for apps which have DVD support). This list is not exhaustive, but please add to it if you think of anything else.
* If something is already installed then it isn't affected, like Homebrew Channel, etc.
* It updates all IOSes with the fakesigning bug, and adds IOS51.
