Free Wii points for Stars

A while ago there where 1000 wii points available at the Nintendo Vip site for purchase. The cost was 789 stars. If you then went to your treasure chest and the item "wii points" could not be clicked and then it was later changed to "--"

This was a mistake by Nintendo while they where doing some tests. (this could mean they will be selling some points for stars.)

If you like me bought some points you will be short 789 stars and nothing to show for it.

I got this email from Nintendo

Dear Nintendo fan,

Last Friday we have been running internal tests in the Stars Catalogue on our website. Unfortunately, because of a mistake during the testing phase, the Wii Points item accidentally appeared on the website between 4pm and 8pm.

We noticed that you have accessed the Stars Catalogue during this testing period, and that you spent 789 Stars on the item, without getting any Wii Points in return.

First of all, we want to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

This item is not available in the Stars Catalogue, and the price of 789 stars used during the testing period was entirely random.

However, we understand that this may have caused a disappointment. So, as we know how committed you are to Nintendo - and given the exceptional circumstances - we decided to electronically send you 1000 Wii points, if you'd like that. In case you do not want to get these Wii Points, we will of course reimburse the amount of Stars you spent.

Please allow us some time to properly prepare the opportunity for you to choose between Wii Points or Stars. You will receive a follow-up email from us soon, so please keep an eye on your inbox.

Damn damn damn! I missed out, again!

Even though they are offering a conversion rate of less than 2:1, I know what I would do if I had received one of those e-mails!

I was on the site when it all happened. I was tempted to 'buy' some, but it just didn't look right. I laughed at those who did when they said that they didn't get thier Wii points. Looks like they're having the last laugh now.

What will be the conversion rate? - Got over 8000 stars so I'm hoping it'll be atleast 3:1?

It has been rumoured at 4:1. I doubt we'll find out what it really is untill the day Nintendo decide to put them in the Stars Catalogue for real.

8000 stars is only worth £14? - I've spent well over 800 quid to get that many stars.

I understand the frustration, but would ask these questions.

Have you had any less enjoyment from your purchases because of this?

Would you have spent any less money?

The idea of stars to wii points is a relatively new one. . . .

It's a little reward for your loyalty. Do other gaming companies give similar things away?

Thing is that a year or so ago 5000 stars was worth a GBA game (Age of Empires), so in other words £30. So you can understand why I'm a little upset.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the frustration, but I never got the opportunity to exchange for that so it isn't as relevant to me.

When I go to Tesco and do my shopping, I have never purchased anything just because it has bonus loyalty points.

When the clubcard statement comes through I've never analysed it for £spend : reward ratio. . . . .It just is what it is.
