hiya guys bought a wii yesterday and think its fantastic never had so much fun on it but just wondered if u can play dvds on it, just out of curiousity.

To answer your question, as said above, no, the wii does not play dvds. If you put one in, I'm sure it wouldn't really harm the system, maybe the disc, but I wouldn't suggest it.

Wish I could Wii all day - what a relief that would be
Apparently Nintendo were going to release a version with DVD playback in Japan, but given ongoing popularity of the system they didn't want to take away from factory capacity for the existing unit by putting out a revision, that frankly, is unnecessary.
What with stand-alone players down to £10, I wouldn't imagine Nintendo would perceive DVD playback as a profitable venture. Blu-ray - who could say....
