Do you think the Wii would be so popular and selling so well if it was really hard to play?
The beauty of the Wii controller is its simplicity to use.
For Mario Kart, you put the controller into the wheel, and steer!
For Crossbow training, you put the controller into the zapper and shoot!
For Kororinpa, you hold the controller in front of you and tilt it to roll your ball around the mazes.
Simplicity itself!
Games that require more controls utilise the nunchuk, and once you have connected this to the remote, it works in pretty much the same way as your standard old-fashioned controller.
To be honest, you soon get used to it, and wonder why you ever worried about trying it!
There are certain games, such as Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros Brawl, which allow you to connect up an old GameCube controller or the Classic Controller to use as an alternative.
If you have a wireless router, you can connect your Wii online, and then the Shop Channel allows you to download virtual console games from the following consoles:
NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Commodore 64, TurboGrafx, Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive.
VC Game prices vary from about £3.50 to about £8.40, and the games utilise various forms of controller, which is clearly shown on each game info screen. The older games use the Remote held sideways, but newer games require a GameCube controller or the Classic Controller.
1-4 VC games are usually released each week, and there is now a vast catalogue available for download. Take a look at this site to see how many there are!
Virtual Console Reviews - WiiWare & Retro Gaming on Nintendo Wii
On May 20th we get Wii Software too, which is downloadable modern games utilising the Wii's remote controller. These will be priced up to £10.50 each. These will essentially be small games as the Wii only has 512MB of flash memory in total to store games on.
You don't need loads of friends to enjoy the wii, although it is a very sociable console, perfect for party games.
There are plenty of solid single player games on the market. If you look through our reviews and software discussion areas, you will see which games are popular and why.
The Wii also plays all GameCube game discs, as long as you have a GameCube controller to operate them with. You will also need a GameCube memory card to store your GC gamesaves onto.
I hope that gives you a more concise answer to your questions.
