Default Wii control method - is there a knack to it?

I'm not posting to have a winge, just really wanting some tips.

I bought my Wii in November of 2007 and by January 2008 it was not getting played. Got a collection here of around 40 games but it isn't the games that is the problem, really. My favourite games are Tomb Raider Anniversary, Resident Evil 4, Zelda and Nights - probably in that order to be honest. Now, Nigts and Zelda I have no problem with whatsoever. However, to be entirely honest my favourite type of games are epics which take some doing and usually are platforming ( Tomb Raider ) and the thrills of Resident Evil 4 type games. I think you get my drift. Some shooting, jumping aound and a bit of brain power.

However, where I completed these two games on both the PS2 and the Gamecube with normal control pads I'm finding that running and jumping with the nunchuck whilst at the same time needing to aim precisely with the Wiimote is so frustrating for me and doesn't come naturally at all.

I remember when I first went from joysticks to mouse then learned how to use the control pad of the original Playstation then the analogue control pads of the PS, PS2 and Gamecube and they all took me an hour or two to learn apart from the analogue control pad which took me days to get used to. Never took this long though.

So, is there a knack to it that I just need to keep practising? Most of my games I have for the Wii I manage with just fine but these two in particular are causing me so much frustration for me because of aiming with the wiimote whilst at the same time running and jumping all over with the nunchuk. I've finished those games on PS2 and Gamecube. I wondered if I am the only person who finds this problem?

Just looking for some tips as my Wii seems wasted gathering dust and coming out so little. I'd like to play it more.

Please feel free to add my Wii code but PM to let me know so I can add yours.

Most wii games just take a while to 'master' control wise.
But as for secrets, etc...I'd say (on SOME)wii games. E.g. Fifa08 - putting your wiimote nearer the screen generated more power. I suppose it's hyper sensitive, so 'every movement you make counts'.
It also depends upon your nearness to the sensor, light near the sensor, position of sensor and basically it's all in the sensor!

40 games in a couple of months and they're not being played? 4-5 games a week?

a) Why on earth would you get so many games if you weren't playing them
b) Maybe you haven't mastered the controls because you only play them for about 10 mins before buying the next one

I'm assuming a lot of them are VC games (or that you've been very naughty... tut tut).

If the problem is the sensitivity of the wiimote then you can change the settings in the Wii's menu (for placement and distance of the IR bar). Other than that, just a bit of practice. Personally I find the wii games to be fairly intuitive after a while. RE4 takes *some* getting used to but ultimately I think it's much easier than using a standard controller. My tip there is to save the game and then spend 15 mins running around like a loon, shooting/knifing everything. That'll get you used to the controls. I found it difficult to get used to them early on because you don't really use them all that much (i.e. you try and keep shooting etc to a minimum).

Thanks for your replies. Actually put RE4 in tonight for a couple of hours and that is easier now. Tomb Raider still hard to control though.

No, I haven't been naughty and got the console chipped or anything. I just buy a lot of games with the intentions of playing them in the future. Three of the bedrooms in my house are full of my games starting from the Atari 2600 to the Speccy, Atari ST, PS1, PS2, PS3, Gamecube and Wii. I've always been an avid collector of them and money isn't an object as I earn more money than I'll ever need. Lots of people get old, retire and then read books all day. I plan on retiring early then playing a lot of the games that I've collected over the years. Much more fun than reading a few books or going to bingo Anyway, that's why I have a lot of games that I don't play - all for the future.

Anyway, thanks for the tips I'll play some Resident Evil 4 over the weekend then give Tomb Raider another blast next week and if I still have problems I'll put it away again for a while.

From the reviews I've read, Tomb Raider does have some control issues: sometimes it's just the game; not every developer has done a brilliant job with the wiimote. I found Metroid Prime a bit fiddly at times as well and that was published by Nintendo.

Sean what control method did you use with MP3? the normal (or beginner) control mode was utter junk, but the Advanced control scheme worked exclenently, being able to switch jump/shoot and hyper/visor buttons in options helped too

and usually it just takes from about 20 minutes to an hour to get the controls just rihgt, I personally found I didn't like RE4 that much becuase you had to stop to shoot, but that's just a personal problem. many times it is the game being klunky for controls, I have never played Tomb Raider games, I found the PS1 Tomb raider way too hard to control, and I never really tried any after that. almost allways a first party game (nintendo published) will allways have better controls, but there are good controls in some 3rd party games like Metroid Prime (Metroid Prime series were actually devloped by Retro Studios) and Medal of Honor Heroes: 2
