Thinking about all the genres that Nintendo have "colonised", there are a few obvious missing ones.
Well, what do we have that Mario has been involved in?:
Racing: the MarioKart series fills that gap. Well, OK, you could argue that Ninty have yet to create a
simulation racer a la GranTurismo and ForzaMotorsport, but MK is still part of the genre.
Fighting: Smash Bros series of course (Brawl should be fun online on the Wii).
Platformers: No, not the shoes. I am of course talking about the Super Mario Bros series of games.
Adventure: We even have a Mario version of tombraider

....Super Mario 64, soon to be SM Galaxy (can't wait for this).
Party Games: Super Mario Party 105?
etc etc. You get the drift....most genres have been colonised with Mario via some extension of his franchise or another.
However there is one obvious exception......<drum roll>........First Person Shooters.
Well, yes, we
do have Samus, but she's not Mario....and the franchise is it's own Metroid Franchise....not a Mario one. MOST importantly (barring the exception being the DS version), these are designed to be single player affairs.
So I got to thinking.....wouldn't it be great if we had a genuine Mario FPS? A multiplayer one that allowed team deathmatch online

?
Firstly, Mario is about bringing genres to children as well as adults......but an FPS could easily be "sanatised" to a degree and still retain all the fun can't it? Look at it this way, MK multiplayer doesn't involve blood and guts, it's simply a case of popping balloons....yet it still works and works brilliantly. Smash Bros involves violence, but no gore, and works fine.
So I propose an FPS follow Smash Bros guidelines.....still no gore.....probably no balloons.....health bars for each player as is standard in most FPS's.
So who can take part? I think we should have the
same characters as available in MarioKart (no more, no less):
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Yoshi
Browser
Toad
DK
Wario
Waluigi
Daisy
Dry Bones
R.O.B.
Shy Guy
It shouldn't include other characters like the Smash Bros games (Link, Samus, Sonic......etc) as I think we already have that in Brawl and keeping it completely "in house" would be fine as it is imo.
Then we have the maps. If Super Mario 64 alone is anything to go by, the maps would be large enough. Imagine hunting each other around Peach's castle

. Then again, Nintendo are perfectly capable of producing gigantic maps....some of the fields/areas in LoZ:TP for instance.
Then we have the concept of basic items required in every FPS. Of course, they all still follow the same original blue print of Doom....so we need (I've slightly modified from orig Doom):
Health Supply 10%

Health Supply 25%

Armour 50%

Armour 100%

Back Pack (gives you a collection of basic ammo)

Map of the area

DK Damage (a berserk pack that makes each hit 5x stronger while it lasts)

Bowser Damage (a berserk pack that makes each hit 10x stronger while it lasts)

Boo Potion (Invisibilty while it lasts)

Star (Invulnerability while it lasts)
Of course, individual ammo for individual guns would be scattered around to collect. Talking of guns
