For those who haven't heard yet, nintendo have finally got annoyed with all the numbskulls out there who keep playing "gladiator" with their 'motes (not being cruel here.....they literally have
numb skulls after getting whacked

).
So mine arrived today..... but wasn't quite what I expected --->
Here is a side on view with the official Nintendo one on top, and my 3rd party one below:
As you can see, not much difference between them really. Both look to be about a similar size and appearance.
Here is a rear view of both:

Despite the fact that the Nintendo cover is ribbed (for your pleasure

), it actually has very similar grip to my existing 3rd Party effort. In fact, maybe it's because I'm used to my ones that I actually think there may be a
marginal improvement with mine?.......then again, probably placebo. It's such a close call I have to rate them equally again....so a draw so far then.

Moving on to the fronts:

JEEEZ that Ninty one looks big

. Not only that, but as you can see, there is very little protection of the 'mote itself in comparison to the 3rd Party cover. I think the 3rd Party case is a clear winner here.

3rdP 3
On to round 4 and the next 2 photo's are end on views:

The top view on the left appears to show the official case with a smaller gap for the IR....but in practice this causes no problems at all. The Wiimote is still able to key onto the sender bar as per usual. However, the thickness of the Ninty case is more apparent. Seeing as Ninty made these to protect people's heads (rather than the wiimotes themselves), I'd have to give this round to the Ninty effort....far better "head protection" with that one.
Ninty 3 :
3rdP 3
Looking at the base view on the right, the Ninty version again has a clear advantage in that we're gaining "covers/flaps" for the little connection holes.
Ninty 4 :
3rdP 3
Finally, look at the "overall" views........just
look will 'ya

:
On the Left: nice, minimalist looking 'mote
On the Right: a sex toy
So that's deffo one for the 3rd party....
Ninty 4 :
3rdP 4.
So a draw overall. I guess your decision whether to bother ordering them or not is whether you want your lounge to look like a batchelor pad or an Ann Summers Party hideout

.
I reckon it's worth it if you don't have covers already, but not if you do.
