Just reading over this old-ish thread about rep. I don't think it's used enough, and probably because people still don't understand it. Reading every page though, it is clear that all aspects of rep have finally been looked into and that we know how much rep is given, at what level you get a green dot, etc.
Is there any chance that a mod could write up the rep guidelines, faqs and post them as a sticky in this forum? Or, alternatively, I could do it, and someone sticky it for everyone.

yeah i think having it crystal clear in one place would be a good idea.
many members are aware how to give rep but without people reading through this entire thread, new members will not fully understand it all.
I've read through every page of this thread, and I still only understand how to give/check rep, I've no idea on all the complicated things about green dots, gray dots, red dots, the number of points given and, well you get the picture.
Doh... I have just been given nuetral rep by 2 people neither of whom left comments, so I get a grey box and no more rep points. Still at least it wasn't negative rep.
Okay, just to recap, this is what is known so far;
- To leave rep, click on the scales under the username of the poster you want to leave rep for. Make sure it is the post you want to give feedback for.
- When you get to fifty points, your "alt" description changes (i.e. hover over green dot). When you have 0-49 it reads "#### is on a distinguished road". 50 - 99 it reads "#### will become famous soon enough".
- You get two green dots when you reach 100 points
- Leave a comment with your username so we can see who gave the feedback. This also ensures that you are leaving green feedback.
- Don't leave a comment and the feedback you leave gives 0 points and shows as a grey box.
- The more rep and posts a poster has will give more points every time they rep someone.

That's not true I'm afraid. I've got Rep Points from people who haven't left comments
So that means people don't have to leave comments if they don't want to.
