Should the rep system be disabled?
Well, unless you don't care about the rep system, you will know that there have been a lot of problems with it lately. The whole idea of it was to reward those who contribute to the forum, and help out, answering questions for example. It was also to punish those who broke the rules.
But now, well established, helpful members are being negatively repped, just because someone was bored and felt like it. And some people positively rep somebody simply because they have got to know them well. Yes, 9 times out of 10, the right people have the right amount of rep, but they are sometimes in that position for the wrong reasons. Rep does work on some forums, but sadly not on this one.
Moderating the rep system will acheive nothing. Not only because it's a massive amount of work, but also because it would then be the moderators decision as to whether the rep was rightly given.
Every couple of weeks, the rep thread gets brought up again and again with people complaining about being neg repped. Some people are leaving or are on the verge of leaving down to the system, as some people like to use it to make personal attacks on people.
The only option we have is to remove it completely. Yes, it removes the ability to reward those who actually are doing a good job on the forum, but I'm sure an alternative can be found, even if it's just a thread set up for that purpose.
A poll will follow shortly. The poll will not be made public, so if you are worried what people will think of your opinion, they won't know!

To be honest, i personally am not really too bothered about the rep system.
I do rep people if they have helped me in some way or i like something they have said or done, but over all the whole system to me isn't a major part of my WiiTalking experiance
The hassle that it is seeming to cause is too much though, with people getting annoyed about being neg repped to much.
To save the hassle of everything it could be easier to just be rid of it, but then again to the people that do use the system properly and like it, that could then annoy them
It is definately a tricky subject around here, and i hope something can be worked out soon.
In my opinion, get rid of it to save all the hassle.

i think we do have a little problem with the rep killers who just give out red rep for the hell of it ... i got it because i have the word apple in my user and the person who gave it to me prefers pears :S
sorry if anyone has said about this but:
maybe mods and admins should be the only ones who give out rep since they scan the posts anyway .. this would stop any problems and would make it fair
(btw hilly i never left just less posting and more reading of posts):P

It is being abused terribly both with negative and positive rep.
I am all for disabling it.
The people who count will still stand out from the crowd.
Games owned (that I play): EA Playground, Endless Ocean, Excite Truck, Ghost Squad, Gottlieb Pinball, HotD, Kororinpa, Link’s Crossbow Training, Mario Kart, Mario Party 8, MySims, Pinbusters, RE:UC, Super Paper Mario, SSB Brawl, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Wii Sports
I like the system ...i've had neg rep on occasions for reasons which are completely wrong, such as "gratuitous post upping" and "having too much rep". I honestly can't think of a valid reason why anyone would neg rep any of my posts ...but it happens.
Although i'm probably biased because I have lots of positive rep.
But the thing is ...it's not the fact thaty someone is taking away your rep points that's upsetting... ...it's the fact that someone has something against you and isn't up front enough to address any issues directly - which is really frustrating.
But yeah ...I wouldn't like to see rep disabled as I like to encourage people by using the system, and I think it works better to offer carrots instead of wielding sticks.
But i'll gladly support what the majority want.

Used to work fine back in the day when the forum was smaller and we had only just discovered it. But now the forum is larger and less 'mature' it seems that it's more hassle than it's worth imo.
It's been going on for long enough...
