It's the fact that some people have nearly 500 posts in one single thread! If you also consider that the majority of those posts have absolutely nothing to do with WiiTalk, or any other aspect of the Wii other than MoH then it's practically spam.
I remember "TheEnvironmentDude" or whatever his name was managed to get 200+ posts in just over a day in that one single thread! You can't possible say that that is fair when there's people who contribute all over the site and have lower post counts?
I do agree that there's several members who would be getting a fairly raw deal if the posts were to be removed (e.g. Mojo, Nazz, Snazy, Hoo, Dhill0n etc...) but JB already said he's gonna make it so that these members aren't affected so I can't really see any downside to it.

It's less about how many posts you have and more about where you are posting.
If we see someone in that thread who regularly posts in other parts of the forum, then we'll make sure to 'refund' their post count The only people who will lose post count from this are those that use WiiTalk only for the MoH discussions.

It can be seen as a spam thread in some ways (I'm not calling for SSOA by the way) - the only reason post counts are noted on this site is so people can see how active a user has been to the good of the site - rep isn't always given fairly (sometimes rep not given when due for example), so keeping the post count relevant to the whole site and not just one thread does make sense...
I'm just gonna chuck in my two pennies and say I don't really agree with it. The problem as I see it is the posting behaviour and not the post count. People are being allowed to spam that thread and that is why the post count is so high for some of them. And as some have said, most of them won't give two hoots about losing their post count so it's not going to change anything. That thread is being used like a chat room and not a forum thread.
And another point, it's supposed to tell who contributes more to the forum as newer members will see those people with high post counts as being more knowledgeable. Well, the people who are likely to be most affect (the MOH only posters) only post in those sections and a new member will only see them if they are looking in the MOH sections. And to be fair, they might not contribute to the rest of the forum, but they do know a hell of a lot about MOH!
And as for deciding who gets to keep their post count and who doesn't - who decides that, and on what basis? Why should I (say - assuming I count as an established member) get to keep all my posts in that thread where sometimes I've simply posted "Good game" or "I'm in", but someone else doesnt? I think you're asking for trouble there. I think Bondys solution of everyone keeping their current post count but no more posts will be added, is a good one.
That being said, the mods here do a good job, and I'll respect their decision either way.
I'll be glad to lose a thousand odd posts ... it'll make me seem less of a geek

Clue #1: A noise is my riddle ... like a horn but not a fiddle. I'm not at the end and i'm not in the middle.
I've tried to refrain from posting in this thread because I know it's difficult to please everyone, all the time. I don't mind either way to be honest but seems like the Mods. are setting themselves up for too much work with this rejigging of post count lark.
Why not have a poll to see who wants to see this done and vice versa if the collective opinion actually matters.
Fair enough , some of the Clan members are only posting in the MOH thread but they are contributing to that thread. If they are only posting in the MOH thread, then there is not much fear that their post count will sway new members (because not all new members will visit the MOH thread). See my point ?
I also have to say that there are some Clan members who are starting to post in other threads now and are making some contribution. Maybe, we should be encouraging them along instead.
The main bad apples have already been banned anyway. The current lot seems to be a stable bunch. We all talk about the recent games we play and what we did in game etc. and if that is considered spamming, then I am guilty too.
Just my opinion. Will support the Mods. and Forum whichever way it goes.
To be honest I think it would be abit unfair to punish the people who only post in the MOH thread, or certainly to take away posts they already have. They are contributing to the board, just only in one thread, but that thread is surely as legitamate as any other? And as Monkey said they do know an awful lot about MOH. Also, as Nazz said some of them are now beginning to post elsewhere also.

"New members look to the more established members" hahaha that made me chuckle. Sorry but, since when?
This is a forum, not a new job. Members don't need to be "shown the ropes". They come here expecting to have discussions and have questions answered, in which case they will post a new topic with said question which will be open to everyone and will get an answer. Do you people honestly believe that the new member will only look to higher posters for an answer? Do you think they will completely ignore an answer from another member who joined last week? No, they will have their answer and be happy. What’s more, I doubt there is anyone out there who actually bothers to look at post count and think to themselves "Gee, this guy must know his stuff." Get real.
Back on topic; I think the topic should just be locked to be honest. It's mainly spam from what I here. I've not really risked venturing in there but when I did once, there was about ten plus pages all posted on the same day. For a community of this size, that is not healthy.
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
TBH Caesar you're one of the people I think of the most in regards to this whole situation. You post(ed) loads in the off topic section yet those posts don't count. Is it fair that the people from "the" thread now have more posts than you? I realise you probably don't give two ****s about your post count but you've gotta see where I'm coming from?
I'm pretty sure the reason the off topic section was switched off post-count wise was because the mods/admins wanted people to contribute to the main topic of the forum, yet these people are only contributing to ONE thread (and in a couple of cases, their own inflated egos).
