see what I mean... people do really see graphics as part of the fun factor.
Oh when talking about this thread I wasn't just pondering photo real; I meant all kinds; so if you think SMG looks amazing (like I do) then it technically has really impressive visuals.

I agree.
I do believe graphics can help to make a good concept amazing; going back to CoD4 - I think the awesome visuals (with surround sound) etc all really make an intense and amazing experience.
Then again a game like Mario Galaxy looks fantastic for what it is and I wouldn't want it to look any other way; I mean the new Banjo Kazooie looks ugly as they have gone for a semi real look (its strange; I find it very discomforting to look at).
As said in the OP; there is a point where I will start to gripe but generally it takes a lot of unpolished presentation before the look of a game ruins the feel of the game for me.
Again; I hate the new megaman 9 game; it looks lazy to me; you can do very nice 2d imagery (take Warioland Shake as an example) but maintain the retro gameplay; I won't be buying it as I think it gives them an excuse to stop trying.
