Perhaps we should get ourselves a deadline. I think we should do as they probably would do in the real Euro 2008. If a team would miss the plane or not get enough players interested in playing the Euro 2008, or get the dates wrong, or if they for any other reason miss the tournament, there would be a walk over resulting in a 3-0 win for the opposing team. Maybe this would be an alternative?
Or we could make a system like: if the third team in alphabetic order in group A has no player, then the player of third team in alphabetical order from group B will control that team for their 3 group stage matches. So if there is no one playing for Turkey, the player of Poland will step in. If Russia has no player, then the player of Portugal will step in and so on.
Group A > Group B > Group C > Group D >
Chech republic > Austria > France > Greece >
Portugal > Croatia > Italy > Russia >
Switzerland > Germany > Netherlands > Spain >
Turkey > Poland > Romania > Sweden >
I don't think anyone would mind playing a couple of games more.
