As usual, totally agree with what you're saying here Gaffer!

And by some strange coincidence I've just finished playing the Wii with 7 fellow family members! It happens everytime we have someone round for a meal, the whole family gets together, out comes Wii Sports and everyone is talking, laughing and generally having a great time!

I think one of the best moves Nintendo made for this 'Social Converging' is the introduction of Miis. We spent a good 30 mins creating Miis for our guests before actually starting the games and it was great! Then, once you're playing the game, they make it so much more fun and there's always something to talk about laugh about etc

There's no way Wii Sports would have the same Family Impact without the Mii Input, yes it would still be good, but not as good.

This is where I think Nintendo can stay ahead of the field. Whilst the others simply bring out more and more racing and FPS games with better and better graphics, the Wii will continue to get new devices/add-ons/games that may not be the best technologically, but will excel in bringing the WHOLE family together instead.

Nintendo have figured out that most peoples treasured memories involve INTERACTION with friends and family.....not sitting alone in your mum's basement fragging the world in "Uberleet Generic FPS No. 5" .
Couldn't agree more with that part! The best memories are of a group of mates/family sat around playing together in the same room and having an awesome time.

I hope Nintendo do continue to look for these options in the future and I'm sure they will after the massive success that they are experiencing right now. This was truly the console that revolutionized what 'gaming' meant.
