Default What's wrong with Mario Sunshine?

Excuse the provocative title

I know all about Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy is currently blowing my mind on a daily basis but I never played Sunshine, or saw it in action or was aware of anyone who had.

Looking at the contemporary reviews on the metacritic website it sounds amazing but I gather that with the benifit of hindsite it's considered a slightly dissapointing installment in the Super Mario series and all the reviews for Galaxy talk about it as being an heir or sequel to SM64, almost as if SMS was a slightly embaressing mistep to be brushed over or forgotten.

So, I have two questions:
1. What are the flaws/problems with Sunshine and is it still worth picking up sometime?

2. What makes Galaxy truer to the spirit of SM64 than Sunshine?
